A calm day at sea. The wind is favorable, averaging around 10 knots, but slow enough that we still decided to put up the gennaker today. Followed by fresh water showers on the trampolines.
Many people have asked what we do all day. Aside from changing sails if the wind allows and discussing weather and course, there are often boat projects to do. Today, we were cleaning sea water out of the garage which was dumped there from a following wave yesterday when trying to work on the water maker down there. Once it dries out, we’ll put everything back. (The garage is a storage area in the floor under the steering wheels.)
Otherwise, we read, I write my blog posts, we tug the fishing lines every once in a while to see if we’ve gotten lucky. Sometimes I’ll paint. Sometimes we just watch the ocean. We nap, we make tea, we make lunch and dinner, we eat and then we clean up after each. If others vessels are nearby we’ll call them and have little chats over the VHF radio. “Where are you headed?” “How’s your wind?” “Are we reading through AIS on your chartplotter?” Some boats are chatty. Others don’t even answer. All in all, waking hours for me are from around 9am to 7pm. With only 10 hours in the day, it actually tends to feel like time moves rather quickly.
Speaking of fishing, the day before we came into harbor at Cabo Verde, the skipper caught this beautiful tuna. This came minutes after a mahi mahi on the same line. Unfortunately, the smell got to me and I didn’t have as much of an appetite as I would have liked. Hoping I can keep it together if we catch another one. But I really loved the mahi mahi, I hope we get more of those.
Feeling really good about our progress in just one day. Brainstorming for how to make anything resembling a thanksgiving dinner with the ingredients on hand. Grandmother - I have sweet potatoes but no curry paste or brown sugar. Maybe I can whip something up that feels similar, though - you know how I love the fiery sweet potatoes. Might have to make them when I get home just for fun.
Still in the company of 3-5 boats at any given time. Curious to see how long that lasts.
Turning the water maker on again this afternoon to keep our fresh water tank as full as possible at all times while it continues to cooperate.
Lots of time to think. Also a lot of time to not think and just be.

Really nice photo of you and Jan! That IS a pretty tuna... sorry your stomach is still making choices about what works. I would like that recipe for spicy sweet potatoes!
wonderful photos!
